About the app

The purpose of this app is to create a faster and easier way to calculate and explore all different payment scenarios and plan your finances and expenses accordingly.

Product Scope

The application should

  1. Help users calculate EMI payments.
  2. Help users plan their finances via simulating different payment scenarios such as flexible interests, prepayments, etc.
  3. Provide a way to save the user's simulations and share them with others as needed.

Business Objectives

We wanted to create a small revenue stream from this side project to help maintain the site infrastructure and enhancements. The easier way for us to do that is to allow ads on the site.

However, we agreed upon a set of ground rules for ads on the platform:

  1. We only allow relevant and appropriate advertisements on the app.
  2. We would also explore affiliations with other reliable financial institutions to replace ads as a source of revenue.

The advertisements should / will not diminish the user experience of the application.

Research and Analysis

I did lightweight user research to understand the user needs and frustrations with the existing applications. I interviewed a couple of my friends and peers who recently invested in a property/vehicle to learn how they planned their finances and expenses.

I also did secondary research - analysing the competition and going through the application to understand and validate the user's pain points.

Key Insights

By analysing the research data and findings, we derived the following insights:

  • 🥴 Users are confused.
  • 🤨 Users are overwhelmed but determined.
  • 😤Users are always in a rush. They do not want to spend too much time calculating payments.
  • 🙄 Users are unsure if their calculations are accurate.

Application Characteristics

The application must be:

  • Reliable - Calculations and data must be accurate based on the inputs given by the user.
  • Trustworthy - Do not store unnecessary data and ensure the user is informed on what data is stored and for what purpose.
  • User Friendly & Accessible - Easy to understand and simple to use for anyone above the age of 18.
  • Moderated Adverts - Only relevant advertisement. No inappropriate or distracting content.
